John Wayne’s real name was Marion Robert Morrison and he was born in 1907 in Winterset, Iowa. He won an Oscar in 1970 for playing Marshal Rooster Cogburn in True Grit. While the movie was received well at the time some look back on the movie now as one that wasn’t one of Wayne’s best. Some film enthusiasts point to the 2010 remake, with Jeff Bridges in the title role, as the superior version. The award was Wayne’s only Oscar. He was nominated for best actor in 1950 for Sands of Iwo Jima and in 1
