If you're looking to beat the heat.. head out on a mountain highway. All of our seasonal sections of highways have reopened for the season - including SR 542 to Artist Point in Whatcom County. Before you plan that road trip, remember that even in the summer, conditions can quickly change when you drive up these scenic routes. It’s snowplow szn! When the snow returns to the mountain passes and lowlands, so do these rigs. Our crews work around the clock during winter storms to keep roads clear and open, so please do your part by driving for conditions, giving them space, and only passing when they pull over to let you around. Don’t pass or crowd the plows! The billowing snow and plow blades give them limited peripheral visibility, and they might not see you in those blind spots. Stay safe out there, everyone! | WSDOT
