An isolated but mighty band of snow whipped up Thanksgiving mischief for travelers in Wisconsin on Thursday. Over a several-hour period, a localized zone of occasionally heavy snow dropped a couple inches on places not far from Eau Claire — and the primary culprit was exhaust from a nearby glass factory.

A narrow band of snow quickly dropped three inches on drivers — even sending a semi sliding into a ditch. The National Weather Service says it's likely because of a glass manufacturing company near Menomonie.

The National Weather Service says a burst of snow hit the area because of steam from a factory near Menomonie. This may have been a factor in multiple crashes on Interstate 94 in Eau Claire.
