UFC 318 was already shaping up to deeply tied to Louisiana, and main event fighter Dustin Poirier said Wednesday that Lil Wayne will walk him out to his final battle at the Smoothie King Center.
The time has come for Dustin Poirier to lay down his gloves, but not before one more scrap in his home state of Louisiana with his longtime rival, BMF titleholder Max Holloway. The two fighters first met at featherweight in Holloway's UFC debut in 2012.
Max Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC) defends it in a trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC), which headlines Saturday's UFC 318 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

MMA Fighting on MSNMorning Report | Israel Adesanya doesn’t care Dustin Poirier never won undisputed title: ‘He is a champion no matter what’Israel Adesanya has a special bond with Dustin Poirier. Ahead of Poirier’s final fight this Saturday at UFC 318, the tributes have been pouring in for “The Diamond,” one of the most beloved figures in all of MMA.
Poirier bounced back in a big way, emerging victorious from a brutal and bloody war with Pettis that had many touting it as the Fight of the Year. The finish came somewhat anticlimactically in round three, however, when Pettis appeared to tap out with Poirier on top of him out of nowhere.
After hinting at the possibility in recent weeks, Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC) confirmed Wednesday that rap legend Lil Wayne will accompany him during his final UFC walk. Lil Wayne's presence won't deter Poirier from sticking with his classic walkout music, however. Poirier will still walk to James Brown's "The Boss" as he long has.
