STATE COLLEGE – Another game, another couple of records for Penn State star tight end Tyler Warren. The No. 4 Nittany Lions lead Maryland 31-7 at halftime on Saturday at Beaver Stadium.

Tyler Warren has broken Penn State Football’s record for most career touchdowns by a tight end. Warren’s 17 career touchdowns passed Pat Freiermuth’s 16 touchdowns and Mike Gesicki’s 15 scores. Both Freiermuth and Gesicki are in the NFL and have been regarded as two of the best tight ends ever to play for

Warren once wondered whether he was good enough to play tight end at Penn State. Now, he's a potential Heisman Trophy candidate.

Warren is near the end of what will likely be the most prolific career by a Penn State tight end. He has 124 receptions for 1,516 yards and 16 touchdowns in his career. He owns the school record for receiving yards by a tight end and needs six catches and one TD to hold the records in those categories.

The unusual tight end numbers and attention keep coming for Penn State football's Tyler Warren. He's a 6-foot-6, 261-pound junior − and a former high school quarterback − from Mechanicsville, Virginia. He's a lefty. And he continues to put up gaudy statistics and break tight end records − doing it all in the most versatile ways possible.

At halftime of Saturday's Penn State-Purdue game, the CBS broadcast crew spent substantial time comparing Penn State's Tyler Warren with Colorado's Travis Hunter. The terms revolved around team value and versatility. The crew said Warren was at least as valuable to his team, and as versatile, as one of the Heisman Trophy frontrunners.

Penn State tight end Tyler Warren continued to make some history on Saturday afternoon in Beaver Stadium. With his touchdown catch from Drew Allar late in the second quarter, Warren set a new Penn State record for the most touchdown catches by a tight end.

They got it from tailbacks Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen (143 yards rushing combined). They got it from defensive end Abdul Carter (four tackles for loss) and safety Jaylen Reed (third game-turning/saving interception). And, of course, from their do-everything tight end Tyler Warren. Maybe no more than from him.
