A man who might've been the last person to see a missing University of Pittsburgh student in the Dominican Republic said he rescued her from drowning — only for her to vanish a short time later, according to a transcript of an interview he gave local authorities.

The man identified as a person of interest in the case of missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki, who disappeared while on vacation in the Dominican Republic, was seen on the beach with investigators early Sunday morning.

Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student, went missing in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on March 6. She was on spring break with friends and was last seen on the beach near her hotel at around 4:50 a.m. The F.B.I. joined the investigation into her disappearance and U.S. detectives have been sent to the Dominican Republic.
