The Dhaka High Court's refusal to ban ISKCON amidst rising religious tensions and protests over the arrest of a former priest highlights the delicate balance between national security and religious freedoms in Bangladesh.

A day after the second Hindu monk, Shyam Das Prabhu, was arrested in Bangladesh, two other disciples of arrested spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das have also gone missing in Chattogram, ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das claimed on Saturday.

New Delhi expressed concern over the monk's arrest and denial of bail and asked Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Hindus and other minorities. India on Friday said the interim government in Bangladesh must live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities as it expressed serious concern over the "surge" of extremist rhetoric and increasing incidents of violence against Hindus as well as attacks on temples.

Amid an ongoing diplomatic row over the arrest of a Hindu priest, Bangladesh on Saturday said India needs to address Dhaka's longstanding concerns to improve bilateral ties but remained optimistic about good relations with bilateral interests protected.

Bangladesh foreign affairs advisor Mohammed Touhid Hossain emphasised that Dhaka has to build a relationship with India “in view of this reality”.
