His Bills roster had circled Kentucky defensive tackle Deone Walker with their pick in the fourth round. With a tackle-needy Jets also needing a player, though, the Bills would have to make a trade-up to acquire the 6-7, 344-pound phenom.

It doesn’t mean the Bills are fully formed, nor does it mean they can’t be better in certain areas than they were in 2024. Clearly, the way they approached free agency and the draft, no one at One Bills Drive was satisfied with the way the defense performed last year and so fortifications have been made.

One of the weaknesses that came up for Buffalo was the lack of depth at the cornerback spot, especially with Kaiir Elam not panning out after being taken in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Hairston brings big-play ability to the Bills' defensive backfield and that upside should play well for a unit that would like to take advantage of teams throwing away from Christian Benford.
