FSU football vs Stanford grades, penalties lead to Seminoles disappointing loss, bad grades
With FSU continuing to find ways to lose each week after a 3-0 start, the Stanford loss could be the worst of the four due to 13 costly penalties on all three phases of the game. With Mike Norvell's head coaching job in jeopardy, the team struggled with execution on the road and a lack of preparation in a nightcap atmosphere at Stanford Stadium.
On Sunday the ACC fined Stanford $50,000 for violating the league's event security policy after fans were on the field following the Cardinal's 20-13 home win against Florida State. According to the ACC,
Stanford broke out to an early lead with help from a key mistake by the Seminoles. Edwin Joseph got called for offsides for Florida State, turning a missed 30-yard FG for Stanford into a 7-yard TD pass from Ben Gulbranson to CJ WIlliams that made it 10-3.
Stanford improved to 3-0 at home after a dramatic 20-13 win over Florida State Saturday, joining just 30 FBS teams with perfect home records. Interim head coach Frank Reich praised the team’s resilience and energy at home, noting their ability to “make plays when we had to.”
The Seminoles were double-digit favorites at Stanford and at home vs. Pittsburgh, yet they have suffered losses that are attributable to turnovers and penalties.
