Chase Strangio made history Wednesday when he became the first openly trans attorney to argue before the US Supreme Court. An attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, Strangio argued against a Tennessee law denying gender-affirming care for minors.

Strangio will argue on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union’s LGBTQ & HIV Project that Tennessee’s state ban on gender-affirming hormone therapies for transgender children is a form of sex discrimination.

At least 26 states have adopted laws restricting or banning such care for minors, and most of those states face lawsuits.
