U.S. presidential envoy Amos Hochstein, who played a pivotal role in brokering this week’s cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon, on Wednesday emphasized the importance of delinking Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah from the war against Hamas in Gaza.

Amos Hochstein, President Joe Biden’s envoy to the Middle East, celebrated on Wednesday the administration’s first major diplomatic achievement in more than a year: brokering a ceasefire to end 14 months of fighting between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah.

The ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel brokered by the United States and France was characterized by President Biden as an attempt to deliver a "permanent cessation of hostilities."

Israel's military and Lebanon's army are trading accusations that each country violated the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon. It comes less than two days after the deal was first reached and went into effect.
