A Massachusetts state commission has chosen three finalists each for the state’s next official seal, flag and motto.

BREWSTER — A ceremonial retirement of United States flags took place Sept. 8 in Brewster. An annual event, Brewster American Legion member Gerald McConkey estimated that somewhere between 350 to 400 flags were burned as part of the honorary ceremony that evening. The flags are collected throughout the year at various sites within Nobles County.
