Marjane Satrapi, the Iranian-French artist, filmmaker and author of the autobiographical graphic novel "Persepolis", has died aged 56, French President Emmanuel Macron's office said on Thursday.

Acclaimed Iranian-French cartoonist and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi, a prominent advocate for women’s rights, has died at 56, the French presidency said Thursday.

The film Persepolis, directed by Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, won the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and was also nominated for an Academy Award.
