In its update, the IMD said on 'X': "It is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm on 27th November. Thereafter, it will continue to move north-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu coast skirting Sri Lanka coast during subsequent 2 days.

The system is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm within 24 hours, with potential landfall along Tamil Nadu's coast by the end of the week.

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh between November 27 and 29. Strong winds, ranging between 45-55 km/h with gusts up to 65 km/h, are likely along the affected coasts. Additionally, rough seas may lead to flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt marine activities.

The IMD warns that a deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to strengthen into a cyclonic storm within 24 hours, potentially impacting Tamil Nadu’s coast. Authorities urge readiness and caution as the system develops.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression in the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean will turn into a deep depression in the next 24 hours.

Tamil Nadu has been receiving intense rainfall, especially in Chennai city and nearby districts. As per the IMD, a depression over the Bay of Bengal may increase in severity to a 'deep depression' in the following 12 hours.

The latest bulletin from the IMD suggests that this depression is likely to intensify into a deep depression within the next 24 hours.
