More than 20 people have been arrested during a protest in London in support of Palestine Action, a group which has been banned under UK anti-terrorism laws.

Twenty-nine people have been arrested in London after police said they were responding to a protest in support of the banned group Palestine Action. The Metropolitan Police said those arrested were being held on suspicion of offences under the Terrorism Act 2000 and had been taken into custody.

Palestine Action supporters have defied a terror ban hours after it came into force. Several dozen activists gathered in front of Parliament to show their backing for the group, despite it being against the law to display support for a proscribed organisation.
