The former Indianapolis Colts quarterback said Frank Reich is the "perfect steward" for the Cardinal in 2025 after his former NFL coach agreed to be the interim for the ACC program during the upcoming season, per Christopher Kamrani of The Athletic.
Reich was announced Monday as the one-year solution after the firing of Troy Taylor, who was dismissed by Luck last week in the midst of ESPN reporting that he had bullied and belittled female staffers during back to back 3-9 seasons after replacing David Shaw.
Luck was hired in November by new school President Jon Levin to rebuild Stanford's struggling football program after four straight seasons with a 3-9 record, including the last two with Troy Taylor in charge.
ESPN's Pete Thamel first reported that Reich will only be the interim coach for the 2025 season, after which the school will embark on a full-scale search for a more permanent solution.
Luck moved quickly in his new role as general manager of the football program, hiring Reich less than a week after making the decision to fire Taylor following a report that became public saying Taylor had been investigated twice for allegedly mistreating staffers.
Luck is shouldering the load, while Reich’s only objective for the rest of 2025 is to coach football. Luck said his role as general manager at Stanford continues to prioritize fundraising for NIL and creating new revenue streams in order to keep up in this fast-paced era of college athletics.
