A lot of Penn State fans will disagree. While the record in big games stands as the biggest potential factor in their decision, they put themselves not only in a rough spot on the field, but off it as well.

Smith, Penn State’s interim head coach, took over for James Franklin, who was fired Sunday after the Nittany Lions lost three straight games. He has just four practices to prepare Penn State for a trip to face the Hawkeyes at a sold-out Kinnick Stadium.

Penn State’s matchup with No. 1 Ohio State has a kick time and TV network. The Nittany Lions will take on the Buckeyes at noon on Nov. 1 in a game that will air on Fox. Penn State will enter the game on a four-game losing streak, with a bye on Saturday, while Ohio State will be 7-0 with a bye of its own this weekend.

Redshirt quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer will make his first college start under interim coach Terry Smith.

This week, a new-look Penn State offense will take the field on the road against the Iowa Hawkeyes. While there are certainly low expectations surrounding Ethan Grunkemeyer, this could be a chance for the young QB to usher in a new era of Penn State football if he plays well.
