The mother of three kids who were found abandoned living in a filthy, garbage-filled home in Michigan has been charged with child abuse, authorities have confirmed.

Three children were found living alone in "absolute squalor" in a Pontiac, Michigan, rental home after their mother abandoned them years ago, authorities said.

"Obviously, the trauma here is significant," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in announcing the charges Wednesday.
